Do cats snore when they get older. While most cat snores are harmless its also important to know that snoring can be a sign of some kind of medical problem. Understand that they are doing all this to gain comfort and because they do not want to be alone at the end. As Indiana vet Richard L Headley explains.
Respiratory problems are common in older cats. At this point theyre comparable to humans in their 80s. Around half of cats age 5 to 11 weigh more than they should and about a third of all cats in North America are obese weigh at least 20 more than they should.
Younger kittens can be seen to sleep for about 20 hours a day while older cats can snooze for up to 16 hours a day. A tumor in the nose is very difficult to treat. Many elderly cats love to sit in high places but they might struggle to climb up the way they used to especially if theyre suffering from an age-related disease.
As they get older throat muscles get weaker. As a result the throat muscles are not as tight as they ought to be. Pain and weakness are the factors that keep the cat from moving around or playing and exercising.
Overweight cats have a higher tendency to snore. A polyp can be removed if its not serious. Around age 11 cats enter what is considered the senior stage of their lives.
We are totally charmed by that. Gender Not sure if this is completely applicable to cats but in humans woman are more likely to snore because their throats are narrower than mens throats. You dont really expect a creature that lives by stealth to snore - it seems it would make him vulnerable.
